1001 Albums

Last year I had huge fun reading the Robert Dimery edited book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die. Of course you can always discuss the selection of albums but you can't deny that this is a phenomenal source of inspiration if you want to dig deeper into the last half century of music history.

Apparently, I'm not the only one who found the book inspiring. Check out this blog version of the book being developed - complete with reviews of every album, ranking of key tracks, trivia and You Tubing (a new word?). Recently, it was Don McLean's 'American Pie''s turn. The title track was of course a major hit and has been covered in abundance. The extensive use has somewhat fed me up with it even though I actually quite like the song.

This montage video gives a fine interpretation of the storytelling lyrics, though...
