Radium plays Roskilde Festival

Danish Radio has this small radioconcept called Radium. A week ago they compiled quite a few nice bands from the upcoming Roskilde Festival into its programme. Bands like Silver Jews, Wolfmother, The Raconteurs etc is to find. Listen to it here

Auditorium giftshop!

The small danish label Auditorium (run by danish indie-godfather Nikolaj Nørlund) has a nice little hompage, where you can download a lot of songs and videos from excellent artists as Lise Westzynthius, Martin Ryum, I Got You On Tape, Jens Unmack, of course Nikolaj Nørlund and several others. And not to forget the best still performing genuine hippie from the good old days, Niels Skousen. Download his new song Daddy Longleg here.

Automatic mix tape generator

Over at Tinymixtapes they've got some pretty interessting playlist-requesting going on. They encourage people to send in a style, genre, word, phrase, emotion, or whatever else. Then somebody might do a mix tracklisting out of it.
Personally I'm all into the the whole business about usergenerated playlists and my guess is that its the next big thing coming around the corner. The automatic mix tape generator is just fun, but playlist communities is growing bigger by the day. It's the new black. I'll get back to this in a later post.

The Pipettes video and mp3

Throw me back to Phil Spector and his extravaganza bouquet of sound with these marvelous girls in The Pipettes . Formed in Brighton at a beach party (of course) Becki, Rose and Gwenno hits my feet even though my ass is SO much in the seat.
Sure is kitchy and doowop, but they are fun and so much suiting my summer feeling. That's why they are here. Turning the time back to before Beatles fucked it all up!

Blend yourself a milkshake, think of polkadot miniskirts and backseats. The girls are recording an album and making 2006 their biggest year yet. They have spent most of January and February recording a debut album with Andy Dragazis (Blue States) and Gareth Parton (The Go! Team) at the desk.

Of Montreal and The Minders on mp3

Hailing from Athens, pop rock alternativ Of Montreal have carved their own niche in the indie-pop world. They rock me!
Their album Sunlandic Twins is about one year old now, but they are established now. An uniquely and twisted band with influences as varied as Brian Eno, Television, Prince, and The Shins. Because of their succes Polyvinyl Records got their act together and re-released some of the bands earlier albums, which were falling kind of out of prints. Give them a listen and maybe a buy. It's good craft!

I know that The Minders are releasing album It’s A Bright Guilty World on July 18th, but not much more. Except they sound like good happy-go-lucky highschool indie as your momma would've done it. A tribute to Elvis Costello

If my cd-player were asked to mention a few artists to sum up what it's been playing for the last six months, I'm pretty sure "Elvis Costello" would be one of the very first names to come out.

I have been focusing on his early period, i.e. 1977-86, where he released masterpieces in a freakish tempo. Together with his mighty tight band The Attractions he takes you through all sorts of genres in a seemingly effortless manner. In this era the sky high ambitions of Costello's music is matched by the excellence only.
Oh... and then he's from Liverpool. Can't be bad... ;-)

Enjoy this '78-single: "Pump it up". You can't help being impressed of his extremely flexible angles. It's pumped up, indeed.

Matmos' own weird canonical beast

The San Franscisco-based duo of M.C. Schmidt and Drew Daniel's ode to their influences on new album The Rose Has Teeth In The Mouth Of A Beast, sounds like some journey in sound portraits to survive. It's not at all what I would concider indie, but it's electronica alternative and so much concept! So I'm already kind of sorry of this post!

Each of the tracks on Matmos new album is relating directly to someone Schmidt and Daniel consider to be part of their "fractured family album" and the results deemed "a historical pageant". Ranging from Ludwig Wittgenstein, Larry Levan and James Bigwood, through to Darby Crash, Valerie Solanas and King Ludwig II of Bavaria.

It's music as an crystalized artform, but more straight forward than earlier albums, even though those guys samples a cows uterus and vagina as some kind of extremely damn weird tribute to Valerie Jean Solanas, who is best know as the woman killing Andy Warhol.

Matmos from S.F were live on stage with Björk in Roskilde 2003, cooking up some of the most awsome background noise I've heard. I have yet to listen to the whole album, but I'm kind of afraid. I bought their Civil War album back in 2003 and was really fucked by the samples going on here. They are so much about pushing the line in every way. A lot would thing they forget about the listener. So would I, but

Not many musicians has recorded lipsuction fat being sucked and people getting plastic surgery as on 'A Chance to Cut Is a Chance to Cure' (2001) with the club hit “Lipostudio (And So On...)”(mp3). Now they are back, sampling snails on The Patricia Highsmith song. It's collaboration with her favorite animal. Matmos aimed a laser at a light sensitive theremin, and then got snails to crawl across the path of the laser, triggering changes in the theremin's pitch.

The The in the studio

Great news, folks! One of my favorite bands The The are in the studio making soundtracks to a couple of documentaries. The music will be released on an album called Cineola Volume 1 soundtrack album. Very exciting. At the same time this can be a tip about their/his homepage. Seldomly have I seen a website so full of thrilling videos, documentaries, concert-stuff, music and so on. It is absolutely fantastic. Use it!

Forma Nova festival plays Red Neck Manifesto

Honestly I have never heard about the Forma Nova festival in Fredericia, Denmark. But I'm curious as can be now! Because it's an alternative music festival. In fact it's so alternative, that I don't know any of the bands, they have lined up!
I've heard some about The Red Neck Manifesto from Ireland. They play some nice ambient indie-stuff with jagged guitars. And live at the festival.
I'm definetly gonna hang around to see if Forma Nova could be my next stop after this years Roskilde Festival. Truely a great little surprise for me to learn on this beautiful sunday noon.

Slideshow with Sigur Rós

Some greek guys did a photostream-video for Sigur Rós album Takk. It's a pretty impressive archive, where users submit their own pics for show in the stream, though I don't quite get the connection with the Sigur Rós music. But Hoppípolla works out fine with landscape snaps or pics of hot babes. Anyways it's nice flashprogramming and a interessting feature. Check it here here.

Since most of the Indie Laundry crew was at the Flaming Lips concert wedensday, I thought we all could enjoy the great War Pigs cover again. And as a bonus this clip includes mrs. Chan Marshall. Enjoy...!

The happiest Band on Earth

This wednesday evening saw the concert hall at Tivoli being used in a very different manner than usual. Huge orange ballons was bouncing off of the heads and hands of the audience. Confetti, smoke, laserbeams all over the place - and of course the odd superhero. Yes... the American neo-psychedelic freaks of The Flaming Lips had entered the stage, flanked by approximately two dozens of wildly cheering and dancing aliens and ditto santas.

Frontman Wayne Coyne labelled the concert hall as the most beautiful room they had ever played in, but that could never stop him from turning it all into his very own magic, childish, ecstatic far-out version of a circus.

This mix was simultaneously the blessing and curse for this concert. The beginning was pure brilliance. The Lips kick-started the show in a celebrating and highly original inferno, which made the audience immediately jump up off their seats and towards the stage to join what must be described as the best children's birthday party you have ever been to.

Alas, the fun was soon cut short by staff members who a bit too eagerly ordered the crowd back to the seats. While this somewhat took the edge of the mood for a moment, the showmanship of Coyne, the musical wizardry of Steven Drodz and the overall weirdness of Michael Ivins were simply incapable of making this night anything other than a complete and utter succes.

Take 7 minutes off, floating away on the georgeous Sound of Failure from their new album "At war with the mystics".

Mixmatch in iTunes: Celebrity playlists

I admit that I'm on the Apple bandwagon. I like it from a user perspective, but closed formats just stinks. Today I found something quite nice on the american version of iTunes music store. It's celebrity playlists and most persons on it are really indifferent to me, but the idea is good...

My first thought was: These are not real indie celebs. These are Natasha Beddingfield, Queensryche, INXS (speaking from the grave?) and more.

My second thought was: What is Kiefer Sutherland and Liv Tyler doing there?

My third thought was: Beth Orton has some nice stuff on hers. So does Yellowcard (kind of blended though) and I'm going to look into Sondre Lerches as well.
