Midlake live at Loppen

The more you spin Midlake the more you love this band. Tomorrow they play live in Copenhagen at the cozy little venue, Loppen and Indie Laundry will be there.

Earlier this year they played a warm up-concert for Flaming Lips in Tivoli, and we weren't really convinced that this texan band brought anything new to the tradition of Neil Young, but we were mistaken.

Midlake plays strange mid-seventies american rock and deals with old-skool subjects like hunting, building houses etc and thereby put themselves in the same nostalgic tradition as many bands before them.
What we came to like about “The Trials of Van Occupanther” was the dreamy and lyricaly world of Tim Smith and the melancholy melodi-line of the band. It's nostalgic, altmodisch and very catching and has a lot of quality to it. So if you're in Copenhagen buy a ticket - it's not sold out

    Wilco, part 2

I guess I'm in a Wilco kind-of-mood this sunday. Lead singer - and, as seen in my previous post, sometimes rough-handed - Jeff Tweedy is putting out the solo concert DVD "Sunken Treasure: Live in the Pacific Northwest" this tuesday. Check out this clip where he's in his normal fun-loving mood performing an unreleased song named "The Thanks I get".

To quote TV-shop: it doesn't stop here... The great NPR radio show All Songs Considered taped this Wilco show last thuesday. Enjoy the sonic adventure here.

When the going gets tough, count Jeff Tweedy in

A quite extraordinary event played out at a Wilco show on October 16th. A guy from the crowd jumped onstage and laid a hand on leadsinger and band-maestro Jeff Tweedy while he was in the middle of a song. What happened next? See for yourself here. And get Tweedy's explanation here.

Now, don't get misled by the ongoing internet discussions. This case is clear-cut. The guy from the crowd was an obvious jerk (this happened in Springfield... go figure) and it is totally understandable that Tweedy got quite a chok. All hail Wilco.

    Don't miss it...

This tuesday the great M. Ward will give a rare show at Lille Vega in Copenhagen. I think it is his first show in Denmark, and I know it will be an intimate and unforgetable night.

Iceland Airwaves blogreport #1 - Tilly & the Wall

I just saw Tilly and the Wall playing a mini-gig in the 12 Tónar-shop in Reykjavík, where I'm blogging from.
Wild Like Children was the first record released on Conor Oberst's Team Love label. They have a new record out; Bottom of Barrels.
The style is highschool happy-go-lucky with nice girly vocals and energetic kick-ass floor-stepping. Quite good.
This is the first blog-report from Iceland Airwaves festival, where I'm visiting friends and in general just having days off enjoying the country side and the incredible hospitality of the icelanders and their crazy attitude. Wedensday we attented a birthdayparty at a bar where everybody were stoned out of their mind due to eating magic mushrooms. It's the season, it's said.

One bit of Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins... and 36 times Ryan Adams

The sweet country-rocking Jenny Lewis and her Watson Twins has made a new ture, called Fernando. It may not be up to the standard of the very best of her work but still enjoyable, I think.

If you are in a more aggressive - or just plain stupid - mood, turn to Ryan Adams and his 36 brand new ultra short, ultra weird, pure punk songs. First old skool rap, now he turns back to his old love for punkrock. You may not love it all (probably not), but he sure ain't boring... As far as I know, there are no official names for the songs but I found this attempt to name them. I guess it speaks for itself...

    Chuck Norris/Marijuana, Cocaine, Heroin/Country Robot Criminals/Liver Of My Own/Damn Dog/Rats (Oh Crap)/Sex on Beaches/I Miss Patches/The Drug Deal/Land of Unicorns & Candy/Sometimes.../Snoop Doggy Dog/Unicorns For Sale/Grim Reaper's Sandwich Shop/Monster Mash Incorporated (Fuck Abe Lincoln)/Drank An Entire Bottle of Medicine/Hey Punk/Judy Just Called, She's Pissed/Hulk Hogan/What The Fuck/When The Shit Hits The Floor/Drinking Hard (Oh Shit)/Dear Burger King/We're A Wreck/Lord, I Drink Too Much/Call Me Back Mary Anne/I Passed Out (Again)/Drunk As Hell (Again)/Forest Ranger Of The Year/Breaking Into Houses (Just To Look)/Drunk & In Jail/Don't You Do It/You're Dead & I'm Alone/I Ain't Got Money/Just Got Outta Jail (Where's The Party?)/Drunk As A Pile of Fuck.

By the way, Indie Laundy was well represented at the master's gig in Copenhagen this tuesday. Let me just say this: Pure genius!

Monday's News: Sufjan Stevens and Beck

Indie Laundry-bro, Kristoffer, and I managed to get our hands on two tickets for the upcoming, and otherwise sold-out, Sufjan Stevens concert at Vega , Copenhagen in November.

To celebrate that, here is a video clip of him performing a brand new song called 'Majesty Snowbird'. If this is anything to go by, I believe we are in for a very special treat. Melodically ultra strong tunes combined with ever surprising arrangements. Can't be bad...

Meanwhile, today saw the release of the new Beck album as well. It's called "The Information" and you can enjoy the whole package
here. I have only given it a single virtual spin so far but several tracks ('Cellphone's Dead', the Stones'ish 'Strange Apparition', the dark 'Dark Star', 'No Complaints' and 'Movie Theme') really stood out for me upon first listen.
