I can't hide my disappointment of what I thought was a very poor 2006 - musically speaking. Nothing really made my jaw drop. 2007 seems to be an entirely different story, though. Only 2½ months in, we have been blessed with The Shins' fantastic 'Whincing the night away' and Arcade Fire's 'Neon bible', and don't forget The Good, The Bad & The Queen.
This week adds two more very accomplished albums in LCD Soundsystem's 'Sound of silver' and 'We were dead before the ship even sank' by Modest Mouse - now strengened with former The Smiths guitar hero Johnny Marr (picture). Marr's contribution doesn't go unnoticed as his extremely melodic work blends perfectly with the spastic, Talking Head-inspired arrangements of Modest Mouse. I haven't been able to listen more than a few times to this but my according to my first impressions these are two sterling records.
Indie Laundry is happy to give you directions for listening to the two albums in their entirety:
'Sound of silver'
'We were dead before the ship even sank'
I love 2007 - and the upcoming release list almost make me drool...
